In the second half of 2016, international food retail chain SPAR granted an exclusive licence to Malta Retailing Ltd, a member of the Azzopardi Group, to operate the SPAR Brand in Malta. The first SPAR store officially opened its doors on 12 June 2018 in Marsaxlokk, marking the beginning of the brand’s presence on the Maltese Islands.

Since then, SPAR Malta has continued to grow from its first neighbourhood store into a multi-format retail network of 23 stores across Malta and Gozo, comprising SPAR, EUROSPAR and INTERSPAR formats. From convenient neighbourhood supermarkets to larger stores designed for the weekly family shop and the INTERSPAR format, the network has been developed to meet the diverse shopping needs of local communities.

SPAR Malta offers customers a comprehensive range of fresh and chilled products, including bakery, delicatessen, fresh produce, meat and fish, alongside groceries, household essentials, non-food products and an extensive selection of SPAR Own Brand products. Many stores also offer convenient food-to-go and coffee options, further enhancing the everyday shopping experience.
